| Rana came to Ennore, near Chennai, Tamil
Nadu during early 70s from Nepal in search of employment. While working as a goorka at the
power station at Ennore, he observed passengers suffering due to climate - rain or hot
sun. He wants to help the passengers. Rana took a different route to help people. He
planted his first tree in 1971 in the compound of the power station. No one noticed his
action. He, thereafter started planting trees in the surroundings areas, like railway
station. During day he works as a goorka and during evenings he is on his green run. For
over 26 years without expecting any returns he continues his mission of planting and
maintaining of trees, which amount to over one thound. Though his family is at Nepal, Rana
finds it difficult to leave his trees and go back to his family. He wants to continue his
green run as long as possible. |
